As we approach the 70th anniversary of the arrival of around 500 Caribbean citizens in Tilbury, England on the Empire Windrush, there are a number of events taking place to commemorate this important part of British history.
One of several events to catch my eye is Windrush Women: Past and Present ,which takes place on 25 June at the British Library. Hosted by Wasafiri, the event celebrates women writers from the Windrush era, through poetry and readings from a new generation of writers inspired by their legacy. The lineup of writers for the event include Jay Bernard, Susheila Nasta and Valerie Bloom MBE.
This will be an inspiring evening, to remember and celebrate a unique and at times forgotten generation of writers, as well as an opportunity to hear new emerging voices.
Tickets cost £10 (non-members). More information is here.
