Just Read It

It’s challenge time! I came across this one on the Thrice Read blog, who always seem to have some unique and interesting challenges. I like this one because I was feeling solidarity with others who like me often struggle to remember the title and author of books read eons ago (ok sometimes like last month!). And also, as ever, it was pretty fun. So here goes.

The rules: No looking up on the internet or taking a sneaky look at bookshelves. This has to be completed using memory alone!

1. Name a book written by an author called Michael
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

2. Name a book with a dragon on the cover
The Dragon Book of Verse – at least I think that’s what it’s called. It’s a collection of poems that I read as kid, and I remember it having a cool illustration of a dragon on the cover.

3. Name a book about a character called George
Not so sure that I can

4. Name a book written by an author with the surname Smith
You would think with a name as common as Smith I would be able to name at least one but uh uh nope I can’t.

5. Name a book set in Australia
I read a short story by Katherine Mansfield once which I’m pretty sure was set in Australia but it could also have been New Zealand – it was like 20 years ago don’t judge. And I have no clue about the title but it was about a teenage girl’s first dance.

6. Name a book with the name of a month in the title
Aaah, I can’t think of one, and I’ll probably kick myself when I check my bookshelf/google later.

7. Name a book with a knife on the cover
I’m fairly sure one of Philip Pullman’s books has a knife on it – The Subtle Knife?

8. Name a book with the word ‘one’ in the title
One Day?

9. Name a book with a eponymous title
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

10. Name a book turned into a movie
Haha easy, The Hate U Give

That was clearly a struggle, so I’m off to google/check my bookshelf for the ones I couldn’t answer. It’s going to bug me otherwise!
