Book Tag: This or That?

Through my trawl through the community of book bloggers this week, I came across this delightful book tag by Book Bastion. I really enjoyed reading his answers to the questions and wanted to join the fun. So hopefully you’ll enjoy my responses too and if you like this post, do share, join in and tag in others.

Reading on the bed or the couch?

Definitely bed for me. My bedroom is my sanctuary and the place where I’m most comfortable and relaxed. Perfect for getting a few hours of reading done.

Male main characters or female main characters?

I would say female ones. I think I mainly read books with female main characters, perhaps because in some way I’m looking to be inspired by them especially when they’re very strong and relatable characters. This is true for fiction and non-fiction books.

Sweet snacks or salty snacks?

Both! I have no strong preference, it depends on what I feel like at the time. Just give me all the snacks!

Trilogies or quartets?

I prefer trilogies to be honest. More than four books sometimes feels a bit excessive and in some cases I just lose interest (thinking Game of Thrones here – don’t @ me). That or the story line falls down in someway and just becomes a repeat or variation of the previous books.

Reading first person or third person?

First person, I like knowing the thoughts of the character and their motivations. If there’s multiple first person narratives, even better!

Reading at night or in the morning?

Night time because it’s a good way to shake off a long day and wind down before bed.

Libraries or bookstores?

Back in the day I would have said libraries most definitely because I was always skint and books were so expensive (in my view). Now I have a bit more disposable income and it’s nice to actually own books for myself and build my own personal library.

Books that make you laugh or cry?

Books that make me laugh. I have a habit of reading quite ‘serious’ books so I’m always welcoming of a book that makes me laugh.

Black book covers or white book covers?

I literally have no strong opinions about this, and was really surprised to see that quite a few people do. Team Black Book Covers is actually a thing!

Character driven or plot driven?

Character driven because as I said before I like knowing the motivations of characters. And also to have a reason to care (or even not care) about a character is essential for a good reading experience.

And that’s me! In keeping with the spirit of things I’d like to tag Paperback Social, Living in Fiction, and What the log had to say

  1. Love your answers!! I’m so with you on Trilogies vs. Quartets. I also have no patience for series that are 7, 8, 9 or more books long. Like there’s so much to read out there, committing to a huge series like that is more than I’m willing to do anymore.

    1. Thank you!! Yeah I’ve been stung in the past with seemingly everlasting book series. So now I try to be bit more economical with my time, and tbh, money 😃
