Exciting news! I was interviewed by my good friend Christabel Nsiah-Buadi of The Cipher podcast about my love of stories and writing people who look like me into the centre of a narrative. We also discuss the reasons why I founded Just Read It, the books and authors that had an impact on my life and my most recent project, Just Heard, which explores the music of the Civil Rights era.
It was a really fun interview to do and I learned a lot about myself, which sounds weird but I think sometimes you don’t always get a full sense of yourself until someone asks you those vital questions. So my thanks to Christabel and the team because they really put me through my paces, and made me think long and hard about why I do what I do, and reminded me that I do love what I do!
A little bit about the Cipher podcast:
Hosted by Christabel Nsiah-Buadi, The Cipher ‘passes the mic’ to Black creative visionaries worldwide through a series of relaxed, engaging and thoughful interviews. As the the interviewees reflect on the moments that shaped their lives, they also explore how these experiences inspired them to create art, media, and movements to celebrate their cultures – and shatter old narratives about them.
