Heaven we made it!

If I’m being honest 2024 has been a bit of a mixed bag for me. Although there have been some memorable highs, certainly the last three months or so have been quite testing.

Being an anxious overthinker, I’m prone to focusing on the low points to try and work out what went wrong and how I can fix it. But I realised that this only makes me lose sight of the good that has happened over the past year, and that there’s always something to be thankful for. There’s always something to celebrate. I found the following quote on Instagram recently, which illustrates my point perfectly:

My therapist just asked me,

“How often do you celebrate your wins? How do you cheer yourself on?”

And it just hit me that I move on to the next thing very quickly. Please take a moment to acknowledge all that you have done this year and celebrate yourself.

I realised that I also do this a lot – quickly move on from the good and the wins in my life. But let me make a mistake or something goes wrong, I will be dwelling on that for ages and consequently feel very down on myself.

So on this last day of 2024, I want to celebrate my wins – large and small and enter 2025 with a spirit of thankfulness and anticipation for an exciting and fruitful new year. I hope you will do the same!

  1. Being unexpectedly but ‘gainfully’ unemployed. Though it wasn’t on the bingo card for 2024, not working these past few months has allowed me to have the rest I didn’t think I needed and space to think about what I want to do next.
  2. Launching my new ‘work’ website priscillaowusu.co.uk to promote my content writing services.
  3. Getting my first client as a freelance writer. Granted I’ve worked with this client before, but it’s great they wanted to work with me again!
  4. Celebrating my birthday in Philadelphia. I did nothing but eat and mooch around the city. I even made a new friend!
  5. Discovering the life-changing awesomeness of black lipstick. Something about it makes me feel both sexy and powerful.
  6. Summer podcast collaboration with AudioDiaspora. Working with AudioDiaspora is a joy and a privilege every time and I hope that 2025 brings even more collabs.
  7. Favourite read(s) – my top three in no particular order: Maame by Jessica George, Erasure by Percival Everett and A Woman Like Me by Diane Abbott.
  8. Cooking a cracking Christmas lunch for me and my cousin. I’ve never done this before so it was a big deal and I’m pleased to say it went well.
  9. Volunteering at the evening shelter for the vulnerable and unhoused. It’s been a really valuable experience and I look forward to returning to it in 2025.
  10. Keeping Just Read It going for the 13th year running! Words cannot express how immensely proud I am of this!

Thank you to everyone who has followed this blog, liked/shared posts and left comments. You are very much appreciated and I hope you will continue to follow me in 2025.

Happy new year to you all!
